VGP Group
VGP Group develops and manages logistics and industrial real estate across Europe. At Park 15 in Oosterhout, VGP has access to a substantial grid connection and a large solar roof. At the same time, grid capacity is scarce. More and more often, the principle is simple: use it or lose it. If available capacity is not used, there is a real risk that part of it will be lost. For VGP, that created a clear challenge. How do you make the most of the energy already available, without compromising flexibility or long-term value?

The brief
VGP’s question was clear. How do you make full use of the available grid connection, even when demand does not continuously remain at peak level? And how do you create more value from solar power while responding intelligently to changing energy prices?
VGP Group’s key objectives:
- Make full use of the available grid capacity and retain it
- Manage fluctuations in demand, generation, and energy prices intelligently
- Create additional returns from solar energy and the grid connection
The approach
Following an analysis of the grid connection, energy demand, and solar generation at Park 15, we delivered a system with two batteries, connected to the existing PV system on the same connection.
The batteries act as a smart buffer between generation, consumption, and grid capacity. Energy is stored when there is room on the grid or when solar output is high, even if that electricity is not needed straight away. This keeps the connection actively utilised and creates flexibility for today and tomorrow.

Results
With this solution, VGP has greater control over its own energy. The batteries deliver:
- Structural use of the full grid capacity
- Lower grid costs and higher returns from solar power
- Additional flexibility and revenue through energy trading
In this way, VGP combines smart real estate management with active energy management: future-ready, commercially sound, and prepared for further grid congestion, which is increasingly becoming the norm.
