From its base in Eerbeek, the company is actively advancing the decarbonisation of its fleet, with electrification as the logical next step.
As Schotpoort began to scale, it encountered a familiar constraint. The existing grid connection offered limited headroom, while over 3,000 solar panels were generating ample renewable energy. The challenge was clear: how to harness both solar production and grid capacity more intelligently — ensuring continuous charging availability while preparing the system for further growth.

Schotpoort keeps energy moving

The brief
Schotpoort recognised early on that electric driving is the future. While the first electric trucks could charge without issue, further expansion quickly exposed the limits of the existing grid connection. At the same time, 3,000 solar panels were already generating significant amounts of renewable energy. The challenge was not availability, but how to use that energy intelligently.

The approach
We adopted a strategic approach to optimise Schotpoort’s energy system. The objective was clear: ensure continuous charging availability without placing additional strain on the grid. To achieve this, we began with a detailed analysis of the existing energy infrastructure, consumption patterns and long-term ambitions.
Based on these insights, we developed a charging hub featuring a 500 kW battery with a capacity of 1,100 kWh, integrated within a mini-grid and managed by an intelligent energy management system. This enables Schotpoort to maximise both its available grid capacity and the output from its 3,000 solar panels.


Results
The battery captures surplus grid capacity when available and maximises the use of solar energy. The system is deployed with flexibility in mind:
- At night, Schotpoort charges its own electric trucks
- During the day, the charging hub is opened to third parties
- Up to 18 trucks can be charged daily, with 10 charging simultaneously — without placing additional strain on the grid
The result is a charging solution that is reliable, sustainable and future-ready — minimising impact on the grid while maximising value for Schotpoort and its wider environment.
